According to the Miami Herald, the American Red Cross has Raised more than $24 million via Text Messages as of Monday.

Many cellphone carriers have already passed on the donations to the charities. Under normal circumstances, it could take as long as 90 days for the beneficiaries to receive the contributions because cellphone companies usually wait until they collect donations from customers via their bills before passing the money along.

In many cases, cellphone companies have also waived fees they typically charge for such donations, but check with your company to be sure.

To donate to the American Red Cross, text HAITI to 90999 to give $10. When you receive a text in response, reply with YES to confirm your one-time gift. The one-time donation will appear on your next bill.

Donations can also be made to musician Wyclef Jean's Yele Foundation. Text YELE to 501501 to donate $5 or HAITI to the same number to donate $10.

A second major telethon is planned for Feb 5th, for earthquake relief in Haiti.

It's planned from 8pm to 10pm and will air on BET, Centric, MTV and VH1. So far Queen Latifah, Sean Diddy Combs and Pharell Williams will be hosting the telethon.

It's taking place in Miami int the American Airlines Arena.

Proceeds from the telethon will go towards the Yele Foundation, CARE, MediShare and Proctor and Gamble's Children's Safe Drinking Water Program
